New Beginnings

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

It’s a new year and it seems that with the coming of each new year, we celebrate new beginnings. There is something within each and every one of us that inherently knows that we can change, move on, move forward and overcome. In the depths of our soul, we know that there is someone out there who loves us, there is the career which will fill us with passion, and that we are able to re-invent ourselves in new and meaningful ways, should the need be there.

I had the pleasure of performing my first wedding at the end of October (which can be seen at www.cinematicoccasions.com/shaw.htm). I have known the bride - Denessa - most of my life and had the pleasure of getting to know Steve more recently. I mention them because weddings are an excellent example of new beginnings. When a couple marries, they are beginning anew, with all of the hope and optimism the world has to offer. They are re-inventing themselves as a couple, rather than two individuals. And the path they take on that important day changes the course of history for both of them forever.

Rather than simply a “New Year’s resolution” that may be broken in a matter of weeks or months, may we take some time at the beginning of this year to ask ourselves where we need a new beginning. Regardless of the area(s) of our life that need change, may we reach deep within our soul to find the courage to identify that area, address it, and move into the year with passion and courage.

For those of you who have not yet seen it, this site now hosts a “Monthly Motivation” column each month on the right-hand side of the main page. Every month the column features a guest columnist who shares his/her thoughts on staying motivated and focused as you go about your daily life. Last month’s column, written by Dr. Jesse Greever, shares his thoughts for a better life. Be sure to read his and other columns each month as they come out and then share your feedback on what each leader has written!
